Pattaya: A 31-year-old man from Sa Kaeo was killed on Thursday afternoon after he lost control of his motorcycle on sand while negotiating a curve and crossed into the path of an 18-wheeler, which struck and ran over him on a road in Banglamung near Pattaya.
Police said the crash occurred at about 3 p.m. on October 1st on Thung Klom–Tan Man 25 Road in the Nongprue subdistrict. Pol. Lt. Col. Natthabodin Thong-in, deputy investigation inspector at Nong Prue Police Station, was notified of a fatal collision between a motorcycle and a truck and coordinated with rescue workers from the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan foundation in Pattaya.
At the scene, investigators found a black GPX Legend 200 motorcycle, registered 2 Kor Khor 6128 Chonburi, overturned and damaged beside the body of Pongsit Ratchawichiti, 31. He was lying dead on the roadway with a fractured skull, despite still wearing a helmet. Rescue workers covered the body with a white cloth while securing the area.
The other vehicle, an 18-wheel truck registered 72-8943 Rayong, remained at the scene. Damage and impact marks were visible on the rear wheel arch of the trailer. The driver, Thanawat Panthayak, 51, waited to give a statement to police.
A witness, Sirinet Saephu, 29, told officers she had been driving behind the truck when, on the curve, she saw the motorcycle approaching in the opposite direction and losing control, as if it had slipped on sand on the road surface. The bike slid out of the curve, crossed the lane, and was struck and run over by the truck.
Dashcam footage from her car captured the sequence: the motorcycle entering the curve, then skidding out of its lane and into the truck’s path before the collision.
Investigators examined the site, photographed the scene, and collected evidence, including the dashcam recording, as part of the legal process. The body was taken to Pattaya Patamakun Hospital to await collection by relatives for funeral rites.
