CHONBURI, Thailand: Takhian Tia Subdistrict Municipality held a commemorative ceremony on Monday, October 12th, to honour the memory and public service of His Royal Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great, ahead of the annual Nawaminthara Maharaj Day observance.

The ceremony took place in front of the flagpole at the Takhian Tia Municipal Office in Chonburi province. Narongrit Prasitthanak, the municipality’s permanent secretary who is serving as acting mayor, presided over the event.

Participants included municipal council president Songwut Prakobtham, municipal councillors, department heads, civil servants and municipal employees.

The ceremony began with participants assembling for the national flag observance. The presiding official and attendees then paid their respects before a portrait of the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej, formally known as His Royal Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great.

The programme continued with the laying of a ceremonial wreath, the lighting of traditional incense and candles used in royal homage ceremonies, and a commemorative address reflecting on the late king’s contributions to Thailand. Participants subsequently observed one minute of silence in remembrance.

Nawaminthara Maharaj Day is observed annually on October 13, the anniversary of His Royal Majesty King Bhumibol The Great’s death in 2016. The day provides an opportunity for public institutions and communities throughout Thailand to commemorate his reign and his contributions to the country.

Takhian Tia Municipality said the ceremony was organised to express loyalty and remembrance and to recognise the late king’s longstanding service to the Thai people.

The observance forms part of wider commemorative activities held by government agencies and local administrations across Thailand around October 13th.
