SRI RACHA: The Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Division of Si Racha Municipality ran a “Basic Firefighting” learning station for Boy Scouts and Girl Guides of Darasamut Sri Racha School during the school’s Day Camp, part of the basic-level Scout and Guide assembly for the 2026 academic year. The session mixed hands-on practice with classroom instruction and drew strong interest from the students.
The activity was designed to build life skills under the learner-development curriculum, so that young people can protect themselves, put out a small fire safely, and call for help the right way. Mr. Somthop Koetthong led the session, with prevention-and-mitigation staff from the municipality teaching and supervising both the theory and practical parts.
In the theory segment, instructors explained the fire triangle: fuel, heat, and oxygen. Removing any one of the three puts the fire out, giving students a simple picture of how fire behaves.
In the practical segment, students used real extinguishers on a controlled fire. They were told to aim at the base of the flames, not the tips, to sweep the nozzle from side to side, and to stay upwind so smoke would not blow back on them.
They also practiced survival in thick smoke: covering the nose and mouth with a wet plastic bag or cloth, and staying low, crouching or crawling, because smoke rises. Instructors showed how to report an emergency on the 199 hotline, with a short, clear message covering the location, whether anyone is trapped, and a callback number.
The station simulated a fire on the second floor of a building where the normal stairs could not be used. Students practiced an orderly, supervised evacuation down the municipality’s aerial-ladder truck, with prevention staff close by throughout.
Organizers said the camp not only taught practical knowledge but also encouraged presence of mind and confidence that students can use in everyday life.
