Banglamung: Two women were injured on Wednesday morning when a six-wheel truck rear-ended a motorcycle with a sidecar in front of the Khao Mai Kaeo highway maintenance unit in Moo 1, Near Pattaya.
The Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan rescue radio center in Pattaya received the report at 10:30 a.m. on October 8th and sent a crew to the scene. Officers found a red Honda Wave sidecar motorcycle, plate Kamon 130 Samut Sakhon, and two injured women. Sengiam Sinsit, 53, had a head wound and an injury to her left arm. Nongnuch Siri, 53, had a head wound and abrasions on her body. Rescuers treated them and took them to a local hospital.
The other vehicle was a white Isuzu six-wheel box truck, plates from Nakhon Pathom, driven by Bandit Sae Tan, 52. He told officers he was driving in the right lane, saw the sidecar ahead, and could not stop in time before hitting it from behind.
A witness, Soramongkhon Kaewphira, 24, who was driving behind the truck, said the truck came on and struck the rear of the sidecar. Both the rider and the passenger were thrown from the motorcycle and injured.
Pol. Sub-Lt. Phonsan Khanchali, the duty investigator at Huai Yai Police Station, examined the scene, photographed the vehicles and began collecting evidence. Police said they will take further statements from the driver and the witness once the injured women are able to give an account, then determine the cause and proceed with the case.
Rear-end crashes between motorcycles and trucks are a recurring problem on roads around Banglamung, including stretches in Khao Mai Kaeo. In August, Huai Yai officers investigated a fatal collision on Highway 331 in the same subdistrict after a rider hit the rear of an 18-wheel trailer near Pattaya Country Club. A second fatal truck-motorcycle crash followed minutes later, less than 4 kilometers away.
In July, a factory worker died after riding into the back of a parked trailer on a dark section of Highway 331 in front of the Forestry Office in Khao Mai Kaeo.
On October 1st, a rider died in Nong Prue after losing control on sand and crossing into an 18-wheeler.
Wednesday’s crash was not fatal, and police have not said whether speed, following distance or a mechanical fault was involved. Under the Land Traffic Act, a driver who fails to keep a safe distance or drives carelessly can face fines and, in injury cases, criminal charges. Investigators said those questions will wait on the remaining statements.
