He said he was taking goods to Nikhom Phatthana in Rayong. Near the Krating Lai junction a tire blew, so he continued slowly with his warning lights on, keeping to the left lane. At the crash site he heard another bang from the back and thought a second tire had gone. He stopped to check and found that a motorcycle rider had hit the trailer and that the rider was dead.
Officers photographed the scene and were preparing to take a full statement from the driver. They have not said whether speed, lighting, or the truck’s position in the lane will be treated as factors. No charge was announced.
Rear impacts into slow or stopped trucks are a repeated cause of death on this bypass and on Highway 331. In September 2024 a Laotian rider died on Highway 36 in the same Pong stretch after a truck hit him as he moved across lanes. The driver fled.
On the night of August 20th of this year, two riders died within 20 minutes and 4 kilometres of each other after striking the backs of trucks, one of them on Highway 331 in Khao Mai Kaeo. Under the Land Traffic Act, a driver who fails to keep a safe distance or drives without due care can face criminal charges when someone is killed. Investigators said that question waits on the remaining evidence.
