PATTAYA, Thailand: Pattaya Residents were startled early Tuesday morning after a pickup truck crashed into a roadside streetlight on the railway road near the Phai Thong Curve, heading towards Chonburi, in Nong Prue. The strangest part, however, was the driver left and returned to change his clothes, confusing rescue workers and police.

At approximately 2:30 a.m. on October 13th, the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Pattaya Rescue Centre received a report that a pickup truck driver had lost control and struck a streetlight, causing damage. Rescue personnel coordinated with officers from Banglamung Police Station to investigate.

At the scene, officers found a bronze-grey Toyota Hilux Revo pickup truck bearing Chonburi registration plates. The front of the vehicle was severely damaged, and a nearby roadside streetlight had been struck and damaged. However, the driver was not initially present, and the vehicle had been left at the scene.

Nareekarn Jupamatang, 26, who witnessed the incident, told The Pattaya News reporters that the pickup truck driver had been travelling at high speed before she heard the prolonged sound of braking. The vehicle then reportedly lost control and slammed into the streetlight.

She said she rushed over to try to help, but the driver did not speak to her before getting out of the vehicle and disappearing from the scene on foot. She suspected that someone had later come to collect the driver.

A short time later, an older man arrived at the scene. The witness said she was certain that he was not the same person who had been driving the pickup truck.

More than 20 minutes after the crash, the original driver reportedly returned, this time wearing different clothes and accompanied by an insurance representative. He then went to meet investigators at Banglamung Police Station.

According to the initial account given to authorities, the driver said he had panicked after the collision and returned home to change his clothes before coming back to acknowledge the allegations against him.

The driver did not provide further details to reporters about why he had left the vehicle and departed the scene following the crash.

Police documented the incident and proceeded with the legal process over the damage caused to government property.

The circumstances surrounding the collision and the driver’s initial departure from the scene remain subject to the authorities’ investigation.
