Nongprue: A Pattaya som tam vendor chased a man who tried to snatch her gold necklace, crashed her motorcycle in the pursuit, and was about to be assaulted by the suspect when a passing driver stopped and the attacker rode off.

The incident was in Soi Chaipornwithi 11 at about 11:30 a.m. on October 13th. Pol. Maj. Kamron Rotma, the prevention and suppression inspector at Nong Prue Police Station, and Pol. Sub-Lt. Surachai Chuaykhun went to the scene with a patrol and called Sawang Boriboon rescuers.

They found Prathom Khamchomphu, 48, injured, with scrapes on her body and blood on her face. Her red-and-black Honda Wave, yellow plate Kor Khor Ngor 277 Chonburi, was nearby. Rescuers gave first aid and took her to Pattaya Patamakun Hospital.

She told officers she was riding back from Rattanakorn market with ingredients for her stall when an unidentified man in a full-face helmet, on a blue-and-black Honda Wave, pulled alongside and tried to yank the necklace from her neck. Thinking he had it, she gave chase. In the soi she tried to ram his motorcycle, lost control, and fell. Instead of leaving, she said, he stopped, got off his bike, walked toward her, and looked ready to punch her. A driver passing by saw a man about to hit a woman, thought at first it was a domestic row, then heard her shout “help me, help me,” and stopped. The rider got back on his bike and fled.

Pol. Sub-Lt. Surachai asked the radio room to have patrols watch the likely escape roads and sent investigators to pull CCTV. Prathom was told to file a complaint after treatment. Police did not say whether the necklace was still on her or had been taken, and they had no name for the rider.

Grabbing a necklace from a moving rider is snatching under Section 336 of the Criminal Code, punishable by up to five years in prison and a fine of up to 100,000 baht, more if the victim is hurt. Gold-chain snatches are a regular Pattaya case. In December 2025, Banglamung police arrested two Myanmar nationals hours after they took a 3-baht necklace worth more than 167,000 baht.

In September 2025, Koh Chan police caught a man within minutes after he snatched a necklace from a gold shop to pay gambling debts.
