PATTAYA, Thailand: Pattaya City is preparing for its 2026 Loy Krathong celebrations, with events planned for both the mainland and Koh Larn later this November.
On October 12th, Deputy Mayor Krisana Boonsawat chaired a planning meeting in Room 221 at Pattaya City Hall. City executives, relevant department heads and representatives led by Suree Wanna, director of the Education Office, attended to discuss arrangements for the annual festival.
According to the plans presented at the meeting, Pattaya’s main celebration will take place on November 24th at Lan Pho Public Park in Naklua. Koh Larn will host a separate programme on November 23 and 24, offering residents and visitors two days of cultural activities on the island.
Loy Krathong is an annual Thai festival during which people traditionally float decorated vessels, known as krathongs, on water. The festival is an important part of Thai cultural heritage and attracts both domestic and international visitors.
The Koh Larn celebrations will take place at the multipurpose grounds in front of Wat Mai Samran under the theme “Eco-Friendly Loy Krathong, Local Ways of Koh Larn.”
Organisers plan to encourage residents and tourists to wear traditional Thai clothing during the festivities. Special souvenirs will also be distributed to visitors free of charge, according to the announcement.
Boat-paddling competitions are planned for both November 23 and 24, while a local food activity is scheduled for November 23. The programme is intended to showcase the island’s cultural identity while adding attractions for visitors.
The planning meeting also covered proposed registration dates and rules for a krathong-making competition using natural materials. Officials discussed arrangements for the Little Noppamas contest, a traditional festival activity featuring young participants.
Pattaya City said the celebrations are intended to preserve Thai traditions while encouraging environmental awareness and ensuring public safety.
The city also hopes the events will attract visitors, promote tourism and distribute income to local communities and businesses. Preparations will involve coordination among the relevant municipal departments and agencies to ensure that the venues and activities are ready for the celebrations.
Further details about competition registration and the final activity schedule may be announced as preparations continue.
Pattaya City said it would continue working with relevant agencies to ensure the Loy Krathong celebrations run smoothly, provide an enjoyable experience for residents and visitors, and support the city’s tourism economy.
