Pattaya: Police detained nine young people after a 14-year-old girl was lured under false pretenses to hang out and instead assaulted and filmed by a group of youth at a sports center in Soi Thepprasit 7 in Pattaya early Friday morning, in a dispute her mother linked to gossip about a photograph.
Pol. Lt. Col. Thanongsak Inphadung, an investigation inspector at Pattaya City Police Station, was notified at 5:00 a.m. on October 16th of a fight at the youth sports center in Soi 7, Thepprasit Road. Patrol officers found more than 10 male and female teenagers gathered. Ms F, 14, was found injured at the scene. Sawang Boriboon rescuers gave first aid and took her to Pattaya Patamakun Hospital. Officers took nine people connected to the incident to the station for questioning.
Her mother, Surinna, 36, told police the conflict began when F took a photo of Ms S, 19, described as the group leader, and talked about it with friends. Later, people F knew invited her to sit by the sea. She went, expecting no trouble, but was taken instead to the sports field, where the group assaulted her. Part of the attack was filmed. The mother said she is worried because her daughter is only 14 and faced several people over a personal dispute about appearance. She asked the parents of those involved to supervise their children more closely so small arguments do not turn into violence.
Thanongsak said the nine will be questioned in the presence of a multidisciplinary team, as required for cases involving children and youth, although noted some involved were legally adults. Officers will review the video and other evidence to assess each person’s role before deciding on legal steps. He also urged parents, during the school break, to know where their children go in the early hours and whom they are with.
Assault causing injury is a criminal offence. When the victim or suspects are under 18, Thai procedure requires specialist involvement and generally shields identities in formal proceedings. Police had not announced specific charges or the severity of F’s injuries beyond the need for hospital treatment. Some later reports described abrasions and bruising.
