Pattaya: Pattaya City officials met vendors at Talat Mai Naklua on October 20th to discuss urgent fixes and longer-term improvements at the long-standing market.

Deputy Mayor Wutthisak Roemkitkan led the visit with Zone 1 city council members, the assistant secretary to the mayor, members of the mayor’s working team, department heads, other officials and vendor representatives. The group walked the market and held a meeting to hear problems, obstacles and trading needs.

Mr. Wutthisak said the first step is to improve lighting by adding and replacing bulbs so the market is brighter and safer. Officials also discussed forming a new market committee. Active vendors will group and vote for teams of five members; the election is expected soon so the committee can represent traders in coordination with the city.

Longer-term plans call for a major upgrade: a new roof, painting of all pillars and steel structures, a complete overhaul of the electrical system for safety and efficiency, installation of ventilation fans, and a new floor surface to improve convenience, drainage and cleaning. The Engineering Office has been asked to prepare designs and cost estimates so the work is practical and cost-effective.

The deputy mayor noted that Talat Mai Naklua has served Pattaya for many years. After earlier inspections of both Lan Pho market and Talat Mai, the administration intends to support and develop the site so vendors can trade more comfortably and grow their businesses.

The meeting proceeded in an orderly manner. Vendors raised general concerns including electricity costs, the switching of lights on and off, and rules limiting one person to one stall. City officials said they would listen and look for suitable solutions that benefit the market as a whole.

A recent city review had already examined a larger redesign of Talat Mai Naklua covering roughly 2 rai 1 ngan 68 square wah and splitting stalls into seafood, street-food and souvenir zones. No final budget or construction start date has been announced.
