PATTAYA, Thailand: Pattaya City officials inspected food preparation and hygiene standards at the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Foundation, commonly known locally as the Pattaya Chinese shrine, on Wednesday, October 14th, as part of efforts to ensure food safety during Thailand’s annual Vegetarian Festival. The main festival is in front of the foundation daily from the late afternoon until mid evening in Naklua across from Lan Pho Park through October 19th.

Deputy Mayor Wutthisak Rermkijakarn led the inspection alongside Pattaya City executives, department heads and relevant officials. The delegation included Pornpirom Sueadang, director of the city’s Health Promotion Division.

The visit focused on ensuring that vegetarian meals prepared and distributed during the festival meet appropriate hygiene and sanitation standards, helping reassure residents and visitors who come to enjoy the locally available vegetarian food.

During the inspection, officials examined the cleanliness of food preparation areas, the quality and handling of ingredients, cooking utensils and other equipment, as well as the methods used to store prepared food.

The checks were intended to identify potential sources of contamination and reduce the risk of illnesses associated with unsafe food and drinking water.

Officials also provided guidance to food preparers on maintaining clean working environments, handling ingredients safely and following appropriate food sanitation practices throughout the festival.

The annual Vegetarian Festival attracts people who choose to avoid meat and certain other ingredients for religious, cultural, or personal reasons. Food stalls and community kitchens play an important role in providing vegetarian meals during the celebrations.

Pattaya City said the inspections form part of its efforts to protect public health and promote confidence in food prepared for the festival.

Authorities encouraged food vendors and organisers to maintain good hygiene practices consistently, from ingredient preparation through cooking and storage, to help ensure that meals served to the public remain safe to eat.

The inspection was organised by Pattaya City’s Tourism and Sports Bureau, with the city continuing to monitor hygiene standards during the festival period.
