Pattaya Mayor Orders 24-Hour Watch as Heavy-Rain Alert Covers Chonburi

ที่มา: The Pattaya News

– Mayor Poramese Ngampichet chaired a readiness meeting on October 9th in room 242 at Pattaya City Hall.

– City executives, Pattaya police, Banglamung district, and civil-defence volunteers were told to coordinate on flooding and rough seas.

– The Meteorological Department has warned of heavy rain, gusts, and waves above 2 metres in thunderstorms from October 9 to 13. Chonburi is on the eastern list for part of that period.

Pattaya Mayor Poramese Ngampichet has ordered city agencies onto a 24-hour watch for flooding and rough seas as a national heavy-rain warning runs through October 13, with tomorrow, Saturday October 10th, a day of particular concern.

He chaired the meeting on October 9th in room 242 at Pattaya City Hall. City executives, the mayor’s secretariat, department heads, officers from Pattaya City Police Station, Banglamung district, and Pattaya civil-defence volunteers attended. The city said the goal was to coordinate prevention and limit the effect on residents and tourists. It did not release a list of road closures, pump deployments, or beach restrictions from the meeting.

The meeting follows a Meteorological Department warning, first issued on October 7th and updated since, for heavy to very heavy rain, thunderstorms, gusts, and possible hail from October 9 to 13. A cooler air mass from China is meeting the monsoon trough and the southwest monsoon over the Andaman Sea, the South, and the Gulf of Thailand. In thunderstorms, waves in the Gulf and the Andaman can exceed 2 metres. Chonburi is among the eastern provinces named for heavy rain on days inside that window. The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation has asked 53 provinces and Bangkok to prepare machinery and crews for flash floods, forest runoff, landslides, and standing water over the same dates.

Pattaya’s last written flood plan, set for the September 23–27 rain spell, is the clearest guide to what a 24-hour watch has meant in practice. The mayor then assigned the sanitary engineering office and the Water Crisis Center to track rain and water levels at about nine repeat flood points, with extra attention on the railway-side junction at Khao Talo, Sukhumvit in South Pattaya, and Pattaya 3 Road near the old Mum Aroi junction. Those spots sit low. The city said its drains can handle about 60 to 70 millimetres of rain a day, and that 100 to 120 millimetres can leave water on the road for one to three hours. Officers were to close lanes if the water became unsafe.

Residents could request sandbags on hotline 1337. Late September rain still flooded streets in Pattaya and sent the Banglamung canal into more than 250 homes.
