Pattaya: Mayor Poramese Ngampichet inspected road and footbridge work at three sites on Wednesday and told departments to keep the jobs on schedule without blocking traffic longer than necessary.
He went out on October 8th with mayoral secretary Bancha Kunlawanit, assistant secretary Chukiat Nongyai, and city staff.
The first stop was Pattaya 2nd Road near Central Pattaya, where the surface is being rebuilt and power and communications lines are going underground. Thanu Surachaisukwit, technical deputy manager of the Provincial Electricity Authority’s Pattaya city branch, said the sea side will be done first and the other side is planned for December. The city said this is one of nine underground routes. Six are finished. Pattaya 2nd Road is the seventh.
The second stop was the Top junction in Central Pattaya. Kosit Phumyong, head of construction control in the engineering bureau, said Central Pattaya Road will get a further overlay and will be marked as four lanes. The city expects that work to finish in October, so the lanes are easier to read.
The third stop was the footbridge in front of Pattaya School 1. Thipchai Rattanawirathaworn, director of infrastructure development, said a roof and tiles are being added for pedestrians and students. The city plans covered bridges at nine sites: Pattaya School 1, Chonchan, Ton Krabok, Pattaya School 4, South Pattaya, Lotus Thepprasit, Pattaya School 9, and Pattaya School 7. It named eight of the nine. Only three can go ahead now, at Pattaya School 1, Chonchan, and Pattaya School 4. The others are blocked by high-voltage poles.
Ngampichet told the agencies to coordinate, stick to the plan, and limit the effect on traffic. The city said it will keep inspecting. It did not give a date for moving the poles that are holding up the other bridges.
