PATTAYA, Chonburi: A 20-year-old man was slashed in the neck and head early Saturday at a Pattaya rental room after an argument with a so-called friend over 8000 Baht in missing cash, police and rescue workers said.
The Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Pattaya rescue radio center received a report at 3:46 a.m. on September 26th, 2026, that a person had been stabbed and injured at an unnumbered room in Soi Kor Phai 2. Officers from Pattaya City Police Station and volunteer rescuers were sent to the scene.
Blood drops were found in front of adjacent rooms numbered 5 and 6. Officers assisted Sathit Jaemcharoen, 20, who had slash wounds to his neck and head. Rescuers gave first aid and took him to a local hospital. The suspected attacker was not at the scene and is believed to have fled before authorities arrived.
A neighbor identified only as “Mr. A,” 18, who lives nearby, said he heard two men arguing loudly but did not know what the dispute was about. He later learned someone had been injured. He said he did not know either the victim or the alleged attacker.
The victim told The Pattaya News reporters that the attacker was a friend. Before the assault, the friend had argued with his girlfriend and then turned on Sathit, accusing him of being in connection with 8,000 baht in missing cash. The friend then grabbed a knife and slashed him, Sathit said. After the attack, he asked residents to call for help.
Police photographed the scene and rescuers took the victim for treatment. Officers advised him to file a formal complaint with investigators at Pattaya City Police Station and provide details about the suspect so a detective team can track the attacker and proceed under Thai law.
Under Thai law, slashing someone in the neck and head with a knife is treated as a serious assault. If the wounds are not classified as grievous, the penalty can be up to two years in prison, a fine of up to 40,000 baht, or both. If the injury is grievous, such as lasting disability, facial disfigurement, or inability to work for more than 20 days, the range rises to six months to ten years in prison plus a fine of 10,000 to 200,000 baht. Aggravating factors such as cruelty or premeditation can raise the minimum term.
If prosecutors prove an intent to kill, the case can be charged as attempted murder, which carries a much heavier scale based on two-thirds of the penalty for murder. A private settlement may reduce the sentence but does not automatically end the case. The final charge depends on the medical evidence and proof of intent.
