Pattaya is Officially a 2026 World Festival & Event City Award Winner!

ที่มา: The Pattaya News

Pattaya has been named a recipient of the 2026 World Festival & Event City Award, local officials said, placing the beach city among destinations recognized for building a year-round festival and business-events calendar.

The honour is conferred by the International Festivals & Events Association (IFEA), which presents the World Festival & Event City Award to places judged to have created a supportive environment for festivals and events. Recipients for 2026 were announced during the 71st IFEA Convention & Expo in Tucson, Arizona, on October 5th. The award is not a single-winner contest: several cities are recognized each year. McAllen, Texas, was among those named at the same ceremony.

IFEA describes the programme as a way to encourage municipal leadership, permitting, safety planning and partnerships that allow festivals to succeed. Past recipients include Sydney, Dublin, Rotterdam, Philadelphia and Dubai. In Thailand, Chiang Mai received the title in 2022, Sukhothai in 2023, Phuket in 2024 and Songkhla in 2025.

Pattaya’s own IFEA record predates the city award. In 2024 the Pattaya International Fireworks Festival took gold in the Best Emergency Preparedness and Risk Management category of the IFEA/Haas & Wilkerson Pinnacle Awards. That same year Pattaya hosted IFEA Asia’s Pinnacle Awards and Asia Festival City Conference, the first time the regional gathering was held in an Asian country outside South Korea.

City officials have framed the recognition as part of a deliberate shift from seasonal beach tourism toward a “365-day” event strategy. City clerk Kiattisak Sriwongchai has said Pattaya stages more than 50 medium and large events a year, covering sport, music, culture, beach sports and lifestyle. Signature dates include the Pattaya Marathon, Pattaya International Pride, the International Jazz Festival, the Music Festival and the International Fireworks Festival.

The business-events side has grown alongside the festival calendar. In June 2026 the city hosted Thailand Travel Mart Plus at the NICE Pattaya Convention and Exhibition Center, drawing 429 international buyers, 428 Thai sellers and more than 15,000 scheduled business appointments. Figures later presented to the city council put the event’s estimated economic value above 5 billion baht. The Pattaya Exhibition and Convention Centre (PEACH), part of the Royal Cliff group, offers more than 13,500 square metres of event space.

Larger international bookings are already on the calendar. A Thai–Belgian venture has approval to stage the first Asian edition of Tomorrowland at Wisdom Valley in December 2026, with organizers projecting up to 50,000 people a day. City estimates presented to councillors put the November fireworks festival on the last weekend of the month at roughly 390,000 visitors and about 2 billion baht in circulation, and the year-end countdown at a similar crowd and about 5.7 billion baht.

Pattaya Mayor Poramese Ngampichet, confirmed by the Election Commission for a second term after winning 20,184 votes on June 28th, has made a “festival city” pitch part of his tourism platform, designed at filling the low season through private-sector events. The city is also preparing a digital-twin platform, Pattaya Twin City, for event planners, with a first version expected to be shown at ITB Asia 2026 in Singapore.

Officials say the IFEA title strengthens Pattaya’s case for meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions, not only beach festivals. Whether it translates into new bookings will depend on execution: crowd management, safety, and hotel and venue capacity through a calendar that now runs from Songkran and Pride into fireworks, Tomorrowland, and the New Year countdown.
