PATTAYA, Thailand: A 37-year-old Myanmar national was arrested after allegedly stabbing a friend while drinking alcohol during a dispute at a workers’ camp in Huai Yai on Tuesday night.

Police from Huai Yai Police Station and rescuers from the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Pattaya Rescue Foundation responded to a report of a knife attack at a workers’ camp at approximately 9:10 p.m. on October 13th. One man had reportedly suffered serious injuries.

Upon arrival, officers found the alleged attacker still walking around inside a room at the camp while holding a knife. Police moved in to secure the scene and detained the man, identified as 37-year-old Mr Kyaw. Officers also seized a short, pointed knife believed to have been used in the attack.

Rescue workers then treated the injured man, identified as 40-year-old Mr Sai San Win, who had sustained two stab wounds to the left side of his torso near the ribs. He received initial first aid before being transported to a nearby hospital for urgent medical treatment.

An inspection of the scene revealed signs of a struggle around a table outside the workers’ accommodation. Alcohol bottles remained on the table, while some nearby belongings had been damaged.

According to workers who witnessed the incident, the two men were friends and had been drinking together outside the camp. Their conversation reportedly turned into an argument after they became intoxicated, with a disagreement over work said to have triggered the confrontation.

The argument allegedly escalated into a physical altercation before Mr Kyaw used a knife to stab his friend, leaving him seriously injured.

Police detained the alleged attacker and retained the knife as evidence. The injured man was taken to hospital for treatment.

Investigators are expected to interview witnesses, examine the available evidence and establish the full circumstances of the incident before proceeding with legal action.
