In this instalment of Meet Our Heads, Dr. Connie Kim, Executive Head of School at MIS International School Pattaya, shares her vision for the future of education, the importance of preserving the school’s warm and inclusive culture, and the exciting opportunities ahead for students and families.
From strengthening community connections to expanding academic pathways and enriching the everyday student experience, Dr. Kim explains how MIS is evolving with intention — growing its offering while staying firmly rooted in the values that have long defined its identity.
1. As MIS evolves, what is one thing that should never change?
While facility upgrades, curriculum expansions, and new educational resources continually enhance how MIS students learn, the core essence of MIS must always remain intact. That means preserving our warm, inclusive, and family-oriented culture, where every student is truly seen, valued, and known by name. Growth and progress should always build upon — never replace — the deep relationships, mutual respect, and sense of belonging that define our school community.
As we evolve, we’re deepening these connections by launching the MIS Booster Club, Parent Advisory Council, and Room Parents network, alongside bespoke coffee mornings tailored specifically to support and celebrate our diverse cultural groups. Preserving our vibrant, multicultural identity and ensuring that every student and family feels seen, valued, and genuinely connected will always remain at the centre of who we are.
2. In your view, what does a great education look like in today’s world, and how is MIS bringing that vision to life?
In a rapidly changing world shaped by AI, education is no longer just about mastering what has worked until now — it’s about learning how to think, innovate, collaborate across cultures, and navigate challenges with resilience and integrity.
At MIS, we bring this vision to life by combining rigorous, future-focused academic programmes with holistic development, including bespoke pathways in the secondary division. We filter every decision through its impact on the student experience, ensuring our learners build the practical skills, global mindset, and personal confidence needed to thrive in an ever-evolving world.
3. What are you most looking forward to in terms of the new opportunities and experiences that students will be able to enjoy at MIS?
I’m most excited about the expanded academic pathways, inspiring learning environments, and enriched student life ahead for our students. I’m also looking forward to our families finding their place and identity as important members of our school community — our gates will be open to their participation and contributions throughout the new year and beyond.
From enhanced facilities and upgraded learning spaces to broader academic, co-curricular, and leadership offerings, our students will have access to richer tools and wider horizons than ever before. Seeing them step confidently into these new opportunities — whether discovering a new passion, collaborating in modernised spaces, or growing as young leaders — is what I look forward to most as MIS continues its journey forward.
Dr. Kim’s message is clear: progress at MIS will always be measured not just in new facilities or expanded programmes, but in the strength of the community they serve.
