Bangkok: Metropolitan Police and immigration officers have arrested a 54-year-old Israeli man reportedly on a 2000 plus day overstay and a Thai woman in a Bangkok condominium, seizing ice methamphetamine and other drug paraphernalia after a tip that he allegedly used a dating app to lure women, offer them cake suspected of containing drugs, and secretly record sexual encounters. The Israeli suspect also allegedly threatened arresting officers and claimed to have high level protection.

Pol. Maj. Gen. Theeradej Thammasuthi, Deputy Commander of the Metropolitan Police Bureau responsible for narcotics, led the operation on the 23rd of October with officers from the Narcotics Suppression Center and Investigation Division 4 of the Immigration Bureau. They arrested Tomer, 54, and Ms Phatchanok, 44.

Tomer was charged with jointly possessing a Category 1 narcotic (ice or methamphetamine) without permission, remaining in the kingdom after his permission ended for 2,095 days, and refusing a drug test by narcotics officers. The Thai woman was charged with joint possession and illegal use of the same category of narcotic. Both denied the allegations in full, despite meth allegedly being found in the room and what officers said was clear evidence of the overstay.

Inside the room officers said they seized 15 grams of ice, 50 bags for packing ice, one digital scale, one tray of cake suspected of being mixed with drugs, and one mobile phone. They also reported finding evidence of drug transactions and numerous secretly recorded sexual videos on devices.

The investigation began after the Narcotics Suppression Center received a tip from the Bangkok Narcotics Control Office via the 1386 hotline. The tip described an Israeli man who allegedly used a dating application to contact women, invite them to his condominium, give them cake that caused them to feel unsteady and aroused, engage in sexual activity, and secretly film it, apparently for blackmail purposes.

During the arrest Mr. Tomer also allegedly claimed that a high-ranking Thai official would clear the case for him and threatened to have the entire police team transferred. He also allegedly threatened to kill an investigating officer. Police said they would expand the investigation into the videos, the cake, the alleged threats made against officers, the alleged claims of protection, and any further offences.

Overstays of this length normally lead to deportation and blacklisting once criminal proceedings conclude. The case remains under investigation.
