Nongprue: A 35-year-old electrician died after being electrocuted while installing an electrical system above the false ceiling of a house in the Pattaya area on the afternoon of October 29th, 2026.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Natthabodin Thongin, deputy investigation officer at Nongprue Police Station, received the report at 3:45 p.m. of a fatal electric shock at a house in Moo 6 of the Nong Prue subdistrict. Officers coordinated with the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Foundation rescue team from Pattaya to examine the scene.
The location was a single-storey detached house. Rescuers found the body of Mr. Chanaphon Saburam, 35, a contractor specialising in electrical system installation, in the space beneath the roof and above the ceiling. He showed marks consistent with electrocution. Rescue workers took careful precautions while extracting the body from the confined ceiling area.
The homeowner told investigators that Mr. Chanaphon had been hired to install and lay out the new electrical system inside the house. While working, he climbed into the ceiling space. The homeowner later heard abnormal sounds resembling someone struggling and immediately contacted emergency services, but the electrician was already dead when help arrived.
Police preliminarily believe that while working above the ceiling, Mr. Chanaphon may have come into contact with a live main power line that had not been switched off, resulting in the fatal shock. Investigators are examining the exact cause in detail. The body was transferred for autopsy at a Pattaya Hospital before relatives were contacted to claim it for religious rites.
Electrocution remains a recurring workplace risk for electricians and construction workers in the Pattaya and Chonburi area, particularly during ceiling, wiring and overhead work where live lines may not be isolated. Previous fatal cases reported by The Pattaya News include a 32-year-old electrician who died while repairing a ceiling fan at a Walking Street agogo bar in November 2024 and a 47-year-old who was killed while installing wires at a house in Panat Nikhom in 2021.
Authorities continue to stress the need for power isolation, personal protective equipment and certified workers under skill-development requirements for electrical trades.
