CHONBURI: Chonburi Governor Naris Niramaiwong led provincial officials into flood-hit communities in Ban Bueng district on Tuesday afternoon, distributing food and relief supplies as standing water continued to affect homes and roads after days of heavy rain.
The governor arrived at 4 p.m. on September 29th and toured inundated areas with a team that included Suphinya Niramaiwong, president of the Chonburi Red Cross chapter; Witthaya Khunpleum, president of the Chonburi Provincial Administrative Organization; provincial clerk Khwanruean Srichan; Chonburi provincial office chief Chukiat Hongthong; Ban Bueng District Chief Acting Sub-Lt. Sarawut Kornjiracharoen; Red Cross volunteers; and local government staff.
Officials handed out cooked boxed meals, rice, eggs and bottled drinking water to residents of Thung Khwang and Nong Bon Daeng subdistricts, saying the aid was meant to ease immediate hardship while drainage work continued.
Continuous rainfall has left water pooled in low-lying neighborhoods and inside some homes in those two subdistricts. Sections of Highway 344 (the Ban Bueng–Klaeng route) and connecting community roads still have surface flooding that is disrupting traffic in places.
Local authorities said they were pumping water from residential areas into natural waterways at full capacity and monitoring conditions around the clock.
