A Prachuap Khiri Khan weather warning covering 4–7 October has prompted authorities to order all districts, including Hua Hin, to prepare for heavy rain, flash floods and strong wind gusts.
The Provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Command Centre has issued an urgent directive requiring district officials and relevant agencies to monitor conditions and prepare to assist residents.
The warning follows a Thai Meteorological Department announcement that a cold air mass from China has extended over upper Thailand while the south-westerly monsoon continues over the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand.
These conditions are expected to bring thunderstorms and heavy to very heavy rain in some areas. Potential hazards in the province include flash floods, forest runoff, mudslides and localised flooding.
Deputy Governor Preeda Sukjai, acting on behalf of the provincial governor, has instructed local authorities, subdistrict chiefs and village heads to prepare for possible emergencies. Officials have been ordered to monitor areas at risk around the clock.
Waterfalls, caves and other natural tourist attractions must be closed immediately if conditions pose a danger to visitors.
Prachuap Khiri Khan weather warning: safety advice
Residents are advised to avoid open areas during thunderstorms and stay clear of large trees, advertising signs and unstable structures because of the risk from lightning and strong winds. Farmers have been urged to take precautions to protect their crops.
Authorities have also been instructed to prepare temporary shelters, food, drinking water and essential supplies in case evacuations become necessary.
Residents should closely follow official announcements and weather forecasts throughout the warning period.
Anyone facing an emergency or needing assistance can contact the Provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Command Centre on 032 602 061 or 032 604 532, available 24 hours a day.
