Prachuap Khiri Khan warned of heavy rain, 9–13 October

ที่มา: Hua Hin Today

Prachuap Khiri Khan is among the provinces placed on alert for heavy to very heavy rain from 9 to 13 October, with authorities warning of possible flash floods, runoff, landslides, localised flooding and strong gusts.

The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) coordinated with 53 provinces and the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration on Thursday, 8 October, to prepare for the unsettled weather.

The Thai Meteorological Department issued its latest warning, No. 5, on Friday, 9 October. It forecast thunderstorms, strong gusts and heavy to very heavy rain in some areas across Thailand during the five-day period, with isolated hailstorms also possible.

The department attributed the conditions to a high-pressure system extending from China over upper Thailand, a monsoon trough across the upper South and the south-westerly monsoon prevailing over the Andaman Sea, southern Thailand and the Gulf of Thailand.

Precautions for residents in Prachuap Khiri Khan

Residents in low-lying areas, beside waterways, at the foot of hills and in flood-prone locations are advised to follow weather forecasts and official warnings closely. They should prepare to move belongings to higher ground and be ready to respond if water levels rise rapidly.

Local agencies have prepared personnel, machinery and disaster response equipment to assist residents around the clock. The DDPM has instructed provincial authorities and relevant agencies to closely monitor rainfall and water levels.

Boats in the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea should navigate with caution and avoid thunderstorms, where waves may exceed two metres.
