An apparent waterspout in Hua Hin was photographed off Khao Tao during a late afternoon storm on Wednesday, 23 September.
The photographs, shared with Hua Hin Today by reader John, were taken from Anchor Bar in Khao Tao. They show a narrow funnel extending from dark clouds towards the sea.
What is a waterspout?
A waterspout is a rotating column of air and water mist over water. Some develop beneath growing clouds in relatively light winds, while others are associated with thunderstorms. They can be dangerous and should never be approached, according to the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
More rain is forecast over the coming days, with the Thai Meteorological Department warning of heavy to very heavy downpours across parts of Thailand, including the South, between 23 and 27 September.
Residents and visitors with outdoor plans should follow the latest weather updates.
